Salvador begins testing the e-Volksbus

The capital of Bahia state, Salvador, has started operational testing of the e-Volksbus, Volkswagen Truck & Bus’s 100% electric bus. Vehicles will be operated on selected routes in the city during a one-month period to assess their performance, range, and adaptability to real-life operating conditions. This initiative reinforces the Bahian capital's commitment to seeking out sustainable public transport solutions and promoting the use of clean technology during passengers’ daily commute. “The tests being carried out in Salvador represent another step forward in the process of validating the Volksbus in different urban environments across the country. In addition to São Paulo,

we will soon be working in other strategic capitals. This month's results will be fundamental in confirming the quality of our vehicles and supporting operators and public sector managers with the transition to more efficient and sustainable mobility solutions," says Jorge Carrer, Bus Sales Director at Volkswagen Truck & Bus. The e Volksbus has a total capacity of 22 tons and a range of up to 250 kilometers. It is designed to operate with overnight recharging, a strategy that maximizes productivity and reduces fleet downtime. The vehicle’s onboard technology includes a regenerative braking system, which helps to increase range and minimize brake wear, as well as Eco Drive Mode – a solution that automatically adjusts energy consumption according to conditions of use.

The vehicle's unique features include a flood protection system, which is an essential feature for Brazil’s operating conditions and offers greater safety and durability during heavy rains. The e-Volksbus is also equipped with a kneeling system, which facilitates passenger boarding and expands accessibility. The vehicle’s complete air suspension system increases comfort and stability and offers a smoother travel experience. e-Volksbus to be featured at Mobility Expo Forum in Mexico VWTB will be taking part in the Mobility Expo Forum – one of the biggest events in Mexico's passenger transport sector – which will be held from March 4 to 6 in Mexico City. During the trade fair, the assembler will reinforce its commitment to offering comprehensive solutions on the marketplace and will be presenting one of the sector’s most comprehensive portfolios, as well as the latest developments, including the implementation of a new parts logistics center in the country.

One of the highlights of this year’s edition of the event will be the launch of the e-Volksbus, which is sure to be one of the main attractions at VWTB’s stand and will make Mexico the first country outside Brazil to showcase this model. The e-Volksbus represents a strategic advance in terms of sustainable mobility, as it is a passenger transport solution with a reduced environmental impact compared to the diesel version and does not emit local pollutants or CO2 during operation.
